Our theme for Take Back the Night is 1-in-3, Walk with Me. Which comes from the statistic that 1-in-3 women will experience sexual violence in their lifetime. In the 1970’s Take Back the Night began as a grassroots response to Violence Against Women. At the time, through pressure from feminists and women’s organizations incidents gained media attention of news and media. Since then, Take Back the Night has evolved into a global movement, with over 20 countries hosting marches and rallies annually.
There are many ways to get involved with Take Back the Night 2021:
1. For those who choose to walk one of the trails they and use our selfie check-in spot at the end of each trail, they will be entered into a small draw, with four of those up for grabs.
2. If people are feeling a little more adventurous, they can take all four walks, check-in at each of the final trail markers to get their name into the large draw. Our grand prize is a dinner and one-night stay, for two people, at the Sherwood Inn, Port Carling. This does not include alcohol or gratuity.
3. If walking is not accessible to someone, they have the option of buying one of our Take Back the Night shirts and wearing in solidarity.
4. Some additional ways the community can support us are becoming a volunteer with us, and of course, donating, both of which can be done all year. We are currently recruiting new volunteers for our helpline, chat service, and public education.
